The new version of Lotus is now available. It’s a free download, and a free app! Version 2.0 introduces a no-sleep feature to prevent your Mac from going to sleep. Generous users who donated to 1.0 can use the same donation code to customize your copy.

Thank you for your support!

Big meteor caught on film

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

As reported on Slashdot:

“Witnesses as far as 720 kilometers apart reported seeing what looked like a bright meteor falling somewhere on the Saskatchewan-Alberta boundary around 5:30 pm MT Thursday, according to the CBC.”

(Hey I thought Bruce Willis already took care of these things?)

EasyBatch – Easy with the inches

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

There is a small bug that has been brought to my attention in EasyBatch 1.0, which causes the batch to fail if unusually large sizes are used with ‘inches’ selected (ie, if you try to scale an image to something like 400 inches tall). If anyone experiences this crash be sure that you did not accidentally select ‘Inches’ when you meant ‘Pixels’. This will be fixed in the next update.

Thanks very much to those of you who brought this to my attention!

New! EasyBatch 1.0 has arrived

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

BravoBug’s latest shareware app, EasyBatch, has just been released. It is a simple but powerful batch image processor that makes manipulating your photos and image files a snap. It packs plenty of handy features into its all-in-one interface, and best of all, it’s shareware- so download it for free and give it a try!

Any questions/suggestions, send them my way: info@bravobug.com.

Google hosts LIFE photo archive

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Google is apparently undertaking yet another awesomely massive project: it will be hosting the entire LIFE photo archives, with 10 million images dating back to 1780. As reported on Slashdot:

“Only a small percentage of the images — including newly digitized images from photos and etchings — have even been published. The rest have been sitting in dusty archives in the form of negatives, slides, glass plates, etchings, and prints. At this point about 20% of Life’s archive is online; the rest is promised within months.”

iHal 9000

Friday, November 14th, 2008

I was working in Photoshop on my iMac today while 2001: Space Odyssey was in the DVD player. I suppose it was inevitable that something like this would happen…

Here is a ‘iHAL 9000′ wallpaper for anyone who might like it. It’s 1680×1050. Click the thumbnail for the full image, then just ‘Save As…’ from the File menu. Enjoy!

“This conversation can serve no further purpose. Goodbye, Dave…”

Woman sends $400k to Nigerian spammer

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

This is one of those stories that just makes you go, “HUH?”. We’ve all received (some of us daily) those classic spam E-mails claiming that there is some huge sum of money in some foreign bank, and you’ve been chosen magically by email to receive a huge sum of it if you can just help this random stranger get the money out, or some such thing.

Well, a woman in Sweet Home, Oregon got the same E-Mail but instead of clicking ‘Mark as Spam’, she decided to empty out her husband’s retirement account, remortgage their paid-for house, and take out a lien against the family car.
